An Ode to Mel
I've known Mel since the second grade. We met through my cousin because they were neighbors. She was the first friend I made after I moved from the Philippines. We took cathechism and jazz dance together. Her mom would even make us banana splits after class, and take us to the library to for a summer reading program. In sixth grade, Mel moved to Stockton. You would think that we would have lost touch, but nope. She would come down to hang out with me whenever she would visit her Grandma. Her Grandma and my grandma are best friends. When college came around, I was so excited because we decided to dorm together. During school, we don't get to hang out as much because she's busy. But when we do, it's all about the MeLLo! (Mel + Flo = MeLLo) So cheers to my extremely corny, random, funny, smart, and caring buddy Mel on her 21st birthday. May we be like are lolas when we reach their age!
